Rev. Dr. Bertha A. Perkins

The Reverend Dr. Bertha Almeta Perkins is the organizing pastor of the New Fellowship Baptist Church, in Nashua, NH. 

Although Reverend Perkins roots began in Darlington, South Carolina, she spent most of her adolescent and teenage years in Ansonia, Connecticut, before making the great Granite State of New Hampshire her home for over 51 years.  She was very proud of her “diverse multicultural background” of African, Southern, and New England heritage.

Her Christian Experience began at the age of ten at the Williams’ Temple Church of God in Christ in Ansonia, where she was licensed as a home missionary at the age of 14 and continued throughout her teenage and adult life in New Hampshire.  In New Hampshire she was one of the organizing members of two African American Churches and instrumental in the start-up of two others.  She was licensed to preach by New Hope Baptist Church of Portsmouth, NH in 1982, and served as minister of New Fellowship Mission 1985 to 1987.  On August 30, 1987, she was officially called as pastor, and led the congregation to become incorporated and seek membership into the American Baptist Churches and the United Baptist Convention of Mass. RI, & NH and in 1993 the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc.  Within UBC of MA, RI & NH, Pastor Perkins served as President of the Women’s Auxiliary for four years, and then went on to serve as the first female Pastor, Vice President of the conventions Parent Body.

In Nashua, she was known as a community activist for civil rights, the homeless, at-risk youth, affordable housing and medical care, ethnic and multicultural appreciation.  She served on and was very active in several organizational activities.  One of the organizations that she is very proud to have worked with is the Southern New Hampshire Outreach for Black Unity.

Rev. Perkins was a proud mother of 3 children, a grandmother and great-grandmother.

She loved the Lord and His people.
